DAVOS: World leaders will participate in the six-day online Davos agenda summit of the World Economic Forum (WEF) which is being held virtually from tomorrow.
The summit, which is scheduled to be held between January 24 and 29, will witness discussions around the COVID-19 pandemic and vaccination drives. More than 1,200 leaders from business, government and civil society from 60 countries will convene virtually to discuss the overarching theme of “A Crucial Year to Rebuild Trust”.
WEF founder Professor Klaus Schwab says: “In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, the need to reset priorities and the urgency to reform systems have been growing stronger around the world.”
“Rebuilding trust and increasing global cooperation are crucial to foster innovative and bold solutions to stem the pandemic and drive a robust recovery. This unique meeting will be an opportunity for leaders to outline their vision and address the most important issues of our time, such as the need to accelerate job creation and to protect the environment.”
The Davos Agenda will also see the launch of several new Forum initiatives to accelerate the race to net-zero emissions, champion new standards for social justice and close the digital divide.
Chinese President Xi Jinping, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, French President Emmanuel Macron, German chancellor Angela Merkel, European commission president Ursula von der Leyen and Japan PM Yoshihide Suga will also participate in the event.
However, US president Joe Biden and UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson will not be attending the summit. United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres will also address a session.
This will also mark the launch of WEF’s ‘Great Reset Initiative’ which will begin the preparation of the special annual meeting scheduled for May this year.
On January 26, South Africa’s president Cyril Ramaphosa, European commission president Ursula von der Leyen, German chancellor Angela Merkel, French president Emmanuel Macron and IMF chief Kristalina Georgieva will address the forum.
