PUNE: Afghanistan won the toss and invited Sri Lanka to bat in the 30th match of the ICC Cricket World Cup.
Batsman Dimuth Karunaratne and bowler Dushmantha Chameera have been included in the Sri Lankan team, while the Afghan team has included fast bowler Fazlul Haq Farooqui in place of spinner Noor Ahmed.
According to Afghanistan team captain Hashmatullah Shahidi, he decided to field first because there is a possibility of dew in Syria, while Sri Lankan captain Kaushal Mendis said that he wanted to bat first anyway because of the pitch and batting.
Talking about the points table of the ICC World Cup, Sri Lanka is currently in the fifth position with 4 points while Afghanistan is in the seventh position with 4 points. The winning team will finish fifth in the table.
On the other hand, the Pakistani team is currently in the sixth position in the points table. Afghanistan’s victory today can be beneficial for Pakistan.
If we talk about the possible situation of the national team reaching the semi-finals, first of all, Pakistan will have to win their remaining three matches. These three matches are to be played against Bangladesh, New Zealand, and England.
After winning all three matches, Pakistan will also need the help of New Zealand. If New Zealand wins even one of their remaining 3 matches, then New Zealand will qualify for the next stage based on run rate.
