ISLAMABAD: The workers of Jamiat Ulema Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) have blocked Islamabad’s Murree Road as they protested with the bodies of the party’s slain local leader Mufti Ikram, and his son who were shot dead late Saturday night.
According to details, the federal police were engaged in talks with the protesters demanding immediate arrest of the assailants. Meanwhile, District Commissioner (DC) Islamabad Hamza Shafqaat and SSP Operations Syed Mustafa Tanweer also reached the spot.
Islamabad DC informed the protestors that a First Information Report (FIR) had been registered at the Bara Kahu police station. SSP Tanweer assured the protestors that the suspects will be in the police’s custody soon.
On Saturday night, JUI-F’s local leader Mufti Ikram-ur-Rehman, his 13-year-old son and a student were shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Bhara Kahu area of the federal capital.
Police said the three of them were killed after being shot multiple times. The gunmen opened fire at Siddique Al-Akbar Madrassa located in Bhara Kahu in which the prayer leader and two others were severely injured and later succumbed to their wounds.
Following the incident, SHO Habib-ur-Rehman said the attack appeared to be a targeted killing, adding that it was being investigated from every angle and that the suspects will be caught soon.
