KARACHI: Law enforcement agencies have launched a crackdown against suspects involved in supplying drugs to educational institutions.
Police have already raised concern over the rising consumption and sale of drugs and narcotics among young boys and girls in educational institutes across the city and vowed to launch an operation against unscrupulous elements involved in the trade of the prohibited substances.
In this regard, police conducted three different operations and arrested suspects including two women involved in supplying drugs to schools and colleges.
In the first operation, Nabi Bakhsh police station took action in Garden area on the identification of an intelligence agency and arrested a suspect accused of supplying drugs to a private school. Police said the suspect Muneeb was arrested from Garden Headquarters and supplied drugs to school children.
In another crackdown, another accused who was selling drugs near Iqra University was also caught. Sir Syed Police took action and arrested a drug dealer name Noman Razzaq.
Police also took action in Korangi on the identification of a sensitive institution. Police said a group involved in selling drugs in government schools was caught.
The suspects included two women who used to sell drugs in Juma Goth and surrounding areas. Police recovered more than three kilos of hashish from their possession,
The operation was conducted near Korangi No. 6 DMC School where suspects Nadeem, Naz Bibi and Parveen Bibi were arrested.
Earlier police said they have made preparations for the first major crackdown against drug suppliers in educational institutions.
Police said the district-wise list of suspects who supply drugs in educational institutions has been prepared and the data from the Criminal Records Office (CRO) has been attached.
According to the report, 12 groups of drug dealers are active in the educational institutions of South District and three groups are working in Malir District. Police also identified houses near the premises of government schools in Korangi where a family allegedly supplies drugs.
The report said three groups are working in the public and private educational institutions of Lyari, five groups in the Central District sell drugs near the educational institutions, while in the District East, a group consisting of more than 30 people supply drugs to students.
