LAHORE: A woman in Lahore was reportedly stopped by security officials at Lahore Cantt check post for ‘wearing’ sleeveless shalwar kameez, according to a media outlet Propergaanda.
“I just got stopped at a Lahore Cantt check post with my husband. The security officer asked for my CNIC. I did not have my wallet with me and told him that,” the media outlet quoted the woman as saying.
She further wrote, “The security officer then said keep your ID with you and wear proper attire if we don’t want to get stopped again.” According to the woman, her husband ‘shot back’ and asked the officer about the dress, “which is shalwar kameez’.
“Later, the personnel said she looks like a foreigner. To which I replied I’m wearing shalwar kameez so what is the problem exactly?” she asked. The woman claimed that the security personnel retracted his statement and “pretended he didn’t say anything”.
“When are women going to stop being policed for what they wear by random men who should be doing their job, which should not include policing what women are wearing,” she wrote.
