BHOPAL: A woman in the Islamnagar village of India’s Bhopal was forced to remove her hijab by some people, several Indian media outlets reported on Sunday.
The incident came to the fore after a video of the incident went viral on social media. In the video, the burqa and niqab-clad woman could be seen sitting on a motorbike, accompanied by a man.

The group stopped the man who was riding the two-wheeler and the woman in the city’s Islam Nagar area. A man who was part of the group was heard repeatedly telling her that she was “bringing disrepute to the community”.
She was then asked by the mob to remove her niqab too upon which the man accompanying her protested. “You have to take the niqab off as well,” the member of the mob could be heard saying. The entire incident was filmed by the mob.
According to Indian media, the city police have not registered a case, but have given warnings to two men who were allegedly part of the group.
Last month, two people were arrested in Bengaluru in a case of moral policing after a video showed them assaulting a bank employee for having a Muslim woman colleague ride pillion on his motorcycle.
