PESHAWAR: A woman reportedly gave birth to a child at the main entrance of the Lady Reading Hospital (LRH) in Peshawar.
A picture of two men covering with a shawl as she gave birthday outside the hospital’s Gynaecology Department went viral as people criticised the hospital administration for denying access to the patient.
The LRH administration has suspended all other services and dedicated the hospital to the patients suffering from the coronavirus.
A family had brought the woman suffering pregnancy complications. The security guards allegedly didn’t provide access to the doctors inside the gynaecology department the public sector hospital.
The security guards told the family that LRH has suspended all other services due to the coronavirus pandemic and advised them to take the patient to another hospital in the city.
The led to arguments between the security guards woman’s family during which she went into labour. The woman was taken to a corner where two men provided her cover with a shawl and the woman delivered the child.
LRH spokesman Mohammad Aasim refuted reports that the woman was denied access to the labour room. He said footage of the incident showed the security guards tried to facilitate the women’s attendants and were asking people to stay away from the emergency department.
He claimed the woman delivered the child before reaching the labour room. He said up to 50 deliveries take place every day in the labour room of the hospital and they have never stopped providing services to the patients.
