Typically, Pakistan observes both Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Adha a day after Saudi Arabia. However, this year, it is highly probable that both Muslim countries will celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr on the same day, Wednesday, April 10, 2024.
While this alignment isn’t unprecedented, it remains a relatively rare occurrence in history. Saudi Arabia has confirmed that Eid-ul-Fitr will commence on Wednesday, April 10, as the Shawwal crescent moon was not sighted in the kingdom on Monday evening.
Meanwhile, Pakistan’s official committee for moon sighting is convening today to observe the crescent. If sighted, Eid will also be observed on Wednesday, aligning with Saudi Arabia.
It’s noteworthy that astronomers have forecasted simultaneous Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations in Pakistan and Saudi Arabia this year. The solar eclipse on April 8 made moon sighting challenging in Saudi Arabia, as the new moon was positioned between the sun and the earth.
However, experts suggest that the moon may be visible in various parts of Pakistan today. Should it be sighted, both Pakistan and Saudi Arabia will celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr on Wednesday.
