MULTAN: Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi has asserted that the PTI-led federal government would support any decision of Supreme Court (SC) of Pakistan in connection with the proposed open ballot in Senate polls.
“The constitutional amendment for Senate elections is not aimed at giving anyone any favour, but to bring transparency and end horse-trading,” he said while talking to journalists in Multan today (Sunday).
The foreign minister said Prime Minister Imran Khan wants to end corrupt practices. “We tabled the bill seeking the support of opposition as per their promise in Charter of Democracy signed by PPP and PML-N,” he added.
He also urged the opposition leaders to refrain from creating a chaotic situation in the country. “We all know about the buying and selling [of votes] in the Senate and this should be stop,” the minister added.
Shah Mahmood Qureshi also expressed the hope that the forthcoming newly elected senators will play their role in strengthening the country. Responding to a question, he said there are many factors that are involved in a recent hike in prices. “The government is taking all possible measures to control inflation,” he concluded.
