WhatsApp, the largest social media platform for messaging, closed more than 8.4 million (8.4 million) WhatsApp accounts in India in a month.
According to media reports, this action comes in response to growing concerns over the misuse of the platform in the face of fake activities by WhatsApp’s parent company Meta.
According to media reports, in August 2024, WhatsApp received complaints from 1,0707 users, out of which 93 percent of the complaints were taken immediate action by the platform.
Meta shut down about 8.45 million WhatsApp accounts in India under the Information Technology Act.
The report revealed that these accounts were closed between August 1 and August 31.
On the other hand, WhatsApp said that the ban was implemented after receiving reports of fraud and suspicious activities from users, while the purpose of the ban is to strengthen the protection of the integrity of the platform.
Of the total blocked accounts under this ban, 1.66 million users were immediately blocked due to serious violations, while the rest of the accounts were blocked for being suspicious after investigation.
