In a surprising turn of events, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has announced the postponement of its rally scheduled for today in Islamabad. Originally planned for 4 PM at Tarnol, the rally’s delay follows a series of government restrictions and security measures.
PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Khan had initially announced that the rally would proceed despite the administration’s revocation of the event’s No Objection Certificate (NOC). However, on the day of the rally, PTI founder Imran Khan directed the party to defer the event until next month.
Imran Khan personally instructed senior party member and former minister Azam Swati in Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi to make the announcement. Swati, alongside Barrister Gohar Khan, confirmed the postponement outside the jail.
The rally was originally set to take place amid heavy restrictions imposed by the government. Following the administration’s refusal to grant permission, containers were placed at various points around Islamabad to prevent PTI workers from entering the area. Additionally, the Red Zone—home to key government buildings—was sealed off completely, and schools, both public and private, were closed as a precautionary measure.
PTI has now rescheduled the rally to September 8 at the same location in Tarnol.
