In a commanding performance, Pakistan secured a nine-wicket victory over New Zealand in the third T20I of the five-match series at Eden Park in Auckland on Friday, as reported by national media.
According to some reports, this win was highlighted by several record-breaking achievements that underscored Pakistan’s dominance. Emerging star Hassan Nawaz delivered a sensational innings, scoring an unbeaten 105 runs off just 45 balls.
His century, reached in a mere 44 deliveries, set a new benchmark for the fastest T20I hundred by a Pakistani batsman, surpassing the previous record held by Babar Azam, who achieved a century in 49 balls against South Africa in 2021.
Nawaz’s explosive performance included 10 fours and 7 sixes, earning him the Player of the Match award. Notably, this was only the third T20I match of the 22-year-old’s career, making his achievement even more remarkable.
Chasing a formidable target of 205 runs, Pakistan’s batsmen displayed exceptional aggression and precision. They reached the target in just 16 overs, marking the fastest successful chase of a 200-plus target in T20I history.
The previous record was held by South Africa, who chased down 206 runs in 17.4 overs against the West Indies during the 2007 T20 World Cup. This victory also stands as Pakistan’s second-highest successful chase in T20Is, following their pursuit of 208 runs against the West Indies in Karachi in 2021.
Pakistan’s intent was evident from the outset, as they amassed 75 runs for the loss of one wicket in the first six overs—the powerplay. This total represents Pakistan’s highest score in the powerplay phase in T20I history, showcasing their aggressive strategy and execution.
