What Imran Khan wants to achieve through Jail Bharo Tehreek?

Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and former prime minister Imran Khan announced Jail Bharo Tehreek and later the official schedule was also released by PTI.

It will not be wrong if Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf is called a twist party in the political history of the country, because before that all politics revolved around either the Pakistan People’s Party or the PML-N.

Sometimes Nawaz Sharif and sometimes Ms. Benazir Bhutto became the Prime Minister and when Ms. Benazir Bhutto was martyred, former President Asif Zardari and current Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto replaced her.

Arrests before Jail Bharo movement

Ever since the current Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif came to power and the PDM government dominated by PML-N assumed power, PTI leaders started appearing in courts.

When these leaders of PTI did not afraid appearing before the courts, then PML-N adopted this pattern and started arresting the PTI leaders. We have examples of arrests of Shahbaz Gill, Azam Swati, Sheikh Rasheed, Fawad Chaudhry and other leaders.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf would have started the movement to get its leaders freed from the jails instead of giving arrests, because place of politicians is the Parliament not the jails.

Start of schedule and jail filling movement

It was said that PTI workers from Peshawar will make arrests on February 23. Then there will be arrests in Rawalpindi on February 24, Multan on February 25, Gujranwala on February 26 and Sargodha on February 27.

In the history of Indian sub-continent, Jail Bharo movement is also referred to as civil disobedience and later after Pakistan and India came into existence, separate Jail Bharo movements were also conducted in these two countries on different occasions.

Past Movements

In the 1960s, students launched a Jail Bharo movement against General Ayub Khan. In 2013, Imran Khan himself launched a Jail Bharo movement on allegations of election rigging.

TLP (Tehreek-e-Labaik Pakistan) also launched the Jail Bharo movement. During the violent protests in 2017, the arrest of the TLP chief led to a nationwide strike and a Jail Bharo movement. As if many politicians consider Jail Bharo movement as an important strategy to meet their demands.

Which crouch will the camel sit on?

The situation so far is that Tehreek-e-Insaf  Vice Chairman and former Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has been arrested in Lahore, while Asad Umar, Azam Swati and Umar Sarfraz Cheema have also been arrested.

In the context of the whole situation, it is not clear how the situation will turn out, but due to the tussle of political figures, the search for a solution to the country’s economic problems and public problems has been suppressed somewhere.
