The funeral prayers of veteran actor Shakeel were held on Friday after he passed away a day earlier in Karachi aged 85.
Actor Shakeel’s funeral prayer were offered at Sultan Masjid, DHA after his body was brought from Askari 5 cantonment.
Actors Behroze Sabzwari and Faisal Qureshi also participated in the funeral prayer. Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tessori also arrived to attend the funeral prayers.
Shakeel was admitted to a local hospital four days ago with arthritis and heart complications. Yousuf Kamal, widely recognised by his stage name Shakeel Yousuf, made his name as a prominent figure in the Pakistani entertainment industry.
Born on May 29, 1938, in Bhopal, present-day India, Shakeel moved to Pakistan with his family in 1952 and started his career with the 1966 film Honehar, where he shared the screen with Waheed Murad.
He was a part of many hit TV serials including Uncle Urfi (1972), Ankahi (1982) and Aangan Terha (1984). His work in the popular PTV drama serial Uncle Urfi captivated audiences and showcased his extraordinary talent.
Shakeel performed in the legendary drama series Aangan Terha (1984), further establishing him as a versatile actor of his time.
Shakeel’s portrayal of Taimoor Ahmad in the critically acclaimed drama Ankahi (1982) solidified his position as a formidable talent in the industry.
The renowned actor has made significant contributions to Pakistani cinema. He appeared in numerous local films, mesmerizing audiences with his diverse range of performances.
His starred in the biographical English film Jinnah (1998), where he portrayed the role of Pakistan’s first Prime Minister, Liaquat Ali Khan, alongside the legendary Christopher Lee. In 2015, he was conferred the prestigious Sitara-i-Imtiaz.
