US singer Kehlani Ashley Parrish, known for her solid stance against Israeli atrocities in Gaza, has revealed that she lost multiple brand deals after releasing a music video in support of Palestine.
In a recent interview, Kehlani maintained that her support for Palestine was worth any professional sacrifices, and that “she finds peace in her convictions”.
Shedding light on her motivation to speak up for Palestine, Kehlani explained, “I grew up fully understanding the role of art in liberation and that’s not to place myself in alignment with those artists and those revolutionary acts, but it’s to say I understood what it meant to not be silent.”
After releasing the pro-Palestine music video, she faced pushback on several brand deals that were anticipated following the release of her album “Crash.”
“I’ve experienced a lot of loss. I’ve experienced a lot of things that were promised and set up for this rollout and album,” she asserted.
“Magazines, brand deals and opportunities that [I] was sad to lose, but at the end of the day I don’t regret [losing out, because] I can go to sleep at night,” the After Hours singer affirmed.
While her record label stands by her, several artists refused to collaborate with Kehlani due to her vocal support for Palestine.
Kehlani released ‘Next 2 U’ in May, with a powerful message of solidarity with Palestine. The song opened with a quote by Palestinian poet Hala Alyan, and the music video features Kehlani and dancers in western suits with traditional Palestinian keffiyehs.
She successfully raised $555,000 to support relief efforts in Gaza, Sudan, and Congo from Next 2 U.
