The UA government has decided to restore $397 million for Pakistan’s F-16 program, international media reported on Sunday.
As per the details, the Trump administration has made this decision to ensure that American-made F-16 fighter jets are utilized strictly for counterterrorism efforts and not against India.
In 2019, Pakistan was accused of using F-16 jets, supplied by the U.S., in an aerial clash over Kashmir. This incident raised concerns in Washington, as the agreements governing the sale of these aircraft limit their use in counterterrorism operations.
The Trump administration has also approved the release of $5.3 billion in previously frozen foreign aid, primarily allocated for security and counternarcotics efforts.
Following his inauguration on January 20, President Trump ordered a 90-day halt on foreign aid, affecting funding for various global programs, including those addressing food shortages, disease prevention, and shelter for displaced populations. This decision triggered urgency among US officials and humanitarian organizations, who sought waivers to continue essential programs.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio emphasized that all foreign aid must align with Trump’s “America First” policy. As a result, in late January, waivers were granted for military assistance to key allies like Israel and Egypt, along with humanitarian relief, including food aid. These waivers were intended to ensure that specific funds remained accessible.
However, according to US officials and aid groups, only a limited number of humanitarian aid waivers have been granted.
