U.S. President Donald Trump, openly adopting a pro-Israel policy, has halted billions of dollars in funding to Harvard University. The White House has demanded that the university stop anti-Semitic behavior.
According to a foreign news agency, the U.S. Department of Education formally notified Harvard University of the action and froze billions of dollars in aid. The frozen aid relates to research and other matters.
The news agency reports that the Trump administration has stated that if its demands are not met, the aid will remain suspended.
Previously, Harvard University’s federal aid was frozen after it refused to comply with the Trump administration’s demands. In March, the Trump administration stated it was reviewing nearly $256 million in federal contracts and an additional $8.7 billion in grant commitments to Harvard, due to the university’s failure to take sufficient action against anti-Semitic behavior on campus.
Tensions between the Trump administration and Harvard increased when the university, unlike other institutions, refused to allow government interference in its academic and administrative matters despite pressure.
