NEW YORK: The United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has again expressed serious concern over the grave humanitarian situation in Indian-Occupied Kashmir.
UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric, during a regular briefing, said that Secretary-General remains concerned over the grave situation in occupied Kashmir where people are languishing under a tight lockdown since the last two months.
“The secretary-general’s position on Kashmir has not changed,” he added, adding that the situation on the ground has not changed much.
The UN chief also urged Pakistan and India to hold dialogue to resolve the crisis. He said that human rights should be at the centre of such talks if the situation needs to be solved politically.
The spokesman was asked about the secretary-general’s position on the protest peacefully as eight million are incarcerated and not allowed to come out of their homes and without basic human rights.
The spokesman replied that the Secretary-General’s position on Kashmir has not changed. He underscored the need for addressing human rights of the Kashmiri people in order to resolve the crisis.
