Two Chinese nationals were injured in a shooting incident in Karachi on Tuesday, local police reported.
This is another episode in latest series of attacks on Chinese nationals in Pakistan that prompted Beijing to call for stricter security measures for its citizens.
Senior Superintendent of Police Faizan Ali reported the shooting of two Chinese nationals but provided no more information.
One of the two was in critical condition, according to a spokesman at Liaquat National Hospital in the southern port city.
No militant group has yet to claim the responsibility for the attack. It should be noted that the latest attack was one of dozens that have led Beijing to call on Pakistan to implement more security measures for its nationals.
The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), a separatist terrorist group, claimed responsibility for the October explosion near Karachi’s international airport, which killed two Chinese engineers.
It is worth mentioning that the separatist group Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) has been targeting Chinese nationals working on economic projects in Pakistan in recent years.
Earlier, China had stepped up diplomatic pressure on Pakistan to take action against the terrorists behind the frequent attacks on Chinese workers, warning the violence is “unacceptable” and presents “a constraint” on Beijing’s investments under its Belt and Road Initiative, or BRI.
Beijing’s envoy, Jiang Zaidong, delivered the rare public warning last week at a seminar in Islamabad, accusing the city of persistent security failures involving Chinese workers. The comments, according to analysts, show China’s growing dissatisfaction with the security threats its employees face in the South Asian country.
