KARACHI: Two brothers were killed as unidentified gunmen opened fire near the FTC building in Karachi.
The incident took place near Kalapul traffic signal where two motorcyclists were shot dead near the FTC building. According to Edhi officials, the deceased Syed Abid Hussain Shah and Syed Sabir Hussain Shah were brothers. The bodies of the deceased have been shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for post mortem and legal proceedings.
Senior Superintendent (SSP) South said that the deceased were returning to their home after appearing before a court. He said the initial investigation suggests that the incident was a result of a personal enmity. The deceased were booked in many cases at Mehmoodabad, Defence, Baloch Colony and other police stations.
Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah has taken notice of the killings and has sought a report from Inspector General Sindh Mushtaq Mahar. He expressed resentment over a surge in firing incidents in the last few days in the city and directed to immediately arrest the culprits.
Earlier on Monday, Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) claimed to have foiled a major terror attack in the city and killed one terrorist and arrested five others.
The CTD conducted an operation in Shah Latif Town early Monday morning and killed a terror suspect and arrested five others. The joint operation was conducted by the CTD and officers of intelligence agencies.
The exchange of fire continued for more than one hour. Law enforcement agencies received a tipoff about the presence of terror suspects at a house in the area and conducted the raid.
CTD DIG Omar Shahid Hamid told the media that suicide jackets, ball bearings, explosives have been seized from the house the suspects were living in. The bomb disposal squad inspected the house while the area was cordoned off.
