KARACHI: Two men were arrested on Friday by the Karachi police for not getting vaccinated against COVID-19 as authorities crack down on unvaccinated people.
The Sohrab Goth police took the men into custody after they failed to provide any proof of vaccination against the disease. A case was lodged against them under the Sindh Epidemic Diseases Act 2014 that includes provisions for violation of government orders.
According to the FIR, police apprehended both men in the Sohrab Goth area after they could not provide any proof of vaccination.
The Sindh home department had issued a notification in light of fresh directives issued by the NCOC on September 19, making vaccination mandatory for travellers on motorways.
The Sindh home department had written letters to the Inspector-General Police, Rangers Director-General and divisional commissioners to register cases and impose fines against those who refuse to comply with the directives.
According to a notification issued by the home department, travellers on the motorways would require to get vaccinated by September 20. It further said buses and other equipment of transport companies would be seized over the presence of unvaccinated staff.
Hotels and restaurants would be sealed over unvaccinated staff, including those involved in home deliveries. Unvaccinated travellers will not be able to avail train services.
