WASHINGTON: World’s leading social media platform Twitter is reported to have shut down its offices with immediate effects, and the badge access of the employees being revoked, after reports of ‘mass resignation’.
Multiple media reports suggest the move by Twitter came following a warning by its new owner Elon Musk, who asked employees to either leave or go ‘hardcore’.

Reports suggest that after Musk’s ultimatum, multiple Twitter employees decided to quit the company with severance pay. On the company’s Blind platform, nearly half of the members claimed that they were leaving Twitter. Only a fraction of the people who voted in the group were sure to stay and be ‘hardcore’.
Zoe Schiffer, Managing Editor at Platformer, tweeted that “Twitter has alerted employees that effective immediately, all office buildings are temporarily closed and badge access is suspended. No details given as to why”.

Elon Musk, it may be added here, completed the USD 44 billion takeover of the San Francisco company in late October, after which he fired much of its full-time workforce by email early this month and was expected to eliminate an untold number of contract jobs for those responsible for fighting misinformation and other harmful content.

Platformer’s Zoe Schiffer said the Twitter office buildings will be closed until November 21 which is Monday. The move is most likely being taken to stop a mass exodus of employees.
It has also been reported that the Twitter employees had until 2pm PT on Thursday to select “yes” on a Google Form to the question of whether they wanted to stay at Twitter.
Instead, employees began posting farewell messages to what has been described as an avalanche of salute emojis. Employees were previously told they could sign on for Twitter’s “exciting journey” or take severance and “transition away” from the company.
