Three relatives from a nearby village lost their lives at the hands of human traffickers in the Mauritania boat tragedy. The traffickers reportedly charged Rs. 3.5 million per person.
According to a report by ARY News on Monday, the father of one of the deceased accused the traffickers of taking Rs. 3.5 million per youth and then having them killed. Qosain Haider, Asif Mahmood, and Rizwan Ahmed left home on Eid al-Adha. The last contact with his son in Mauritania was on January 2.
The deceased’s brother shared that they suspected a boat tragedy had occurred by January 13. The human trafficker, Fadi Gujjar, had initially promised to take all three relatives by air.
The brother revealed that no case has been registered so far. The agent first sent the trio to Dubai, then Senegal, and finally Mauritania.
The family contacted the Pakistani Embassy in Spain on January 13, but the officials claimed they were unaware of the incident. While the government has since reached out to the family, they have not provided assurances about the repatriation of the bodies.
An elder relative described the three youths as extremely well-mannered and urged the government to take steps to prevent others from falling victim to such tragedies.
