India’s double Olympic medallist Neeraj Chopra has married Himani in a private ceremony, keeping the details under wraps until the athlete shared the news himself. Neeraj, who made history by winning India’s first-ever Olympic gold in javelin throw at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, posted a heartfelt message on Instagram, marking the start of a new chapter in his life.
“Starting a new chapter of life with my family. Grateful for every blessing that brought us to this moment together. Bound by love, happily ever after,” Neeraj captioned a series of wedding photos, which included a touching image of his mother blessing him during a ritual.
The wedding took place at a destination venue in Himachal Pradesh, with functions held on January 14, 15, and 16. Around 40 to 50 close friends and family members attended the intimate affair. Following the ceremony, the newlyweds went abroad for their honeymoon, and a reception will be held when they return to India.
Himani, who is currently pursuing a sports-related course in the United States, is Neeraj’s new wife, according to his uncle.
Professionally, Neeraj continues to excel in his sport. Earlier this month, he was named the best male javelin thrower in the world for 2024 by Track and Field News, surpassing two-time world champion Anderson Peters. Neeraj was also ranked No. 1 in the men’s javelin rankings for 2023.
Neeraj is also set to bring a Continental Tour Javelin-Only competition to India, endorsed by World Athletics and the Athletics Federation of India. While the event is expected to take place in May, the date is yet to be confirmed. Neeraj hopes this event will become an annual fixture, expanding to include more track and field disciplines in the future.
