With the onset of snowfall in Murree Hills, the City Traffic Police has issued precautionary guidelines for tourists traveling to the area.
In an official statement, Chief Traffic Officer Murree, Mughees Ahmad Hashmi, assured that the traffic police are fully prepared to provide assistance to visitors. Highlighting safety measures, he advised tourists to ensure their vehicles have full fuel tanks and to use tire chains in slippery conditions. He also recommended using four-wheel drive or technically fit vehicles for safer travel.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast showers and snowfall in Murree, Galliyat, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan this week. The Met Office reported that Murree experienced temperatures ranging from a minimum of -1°C to a maximum of 8°C, drawing a significant influx of tourists eager to enjoy the snow.
To manage the increased traffic, the City Traffic Police have deployed hundreds of wardens and implemented several measures. Certain roads, including View Fourth Road and Bank Road, will follow a one-way system, while parking-free zones have been designated near key areas such as Habib Bank and GPO Chowk.
Currently, continental air dominates the region, with a shallow westerly wave affecting Kashmir and its surroundings. Light rain and snowfall are expected to continue in Murree, Galiyat, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir, with additional snowfall predicted for the upper regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
