The West Indies men’s cricket team is set to arrive in Pakistan on January 6, marking their first Test tour of the country in 19 years, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced on Tuesday.
The tour will feature two Test matches, scheduled in Multan from January 17–21 and January 25–29, 2024.
The West Indies last played a Test series in Pakistan in November 2006, when they competed in three matches.
Their most recent Test series against Pakistan was in October 2016, held in the UAE, which served as Pakistan’s temporary home venue after the 2009 militant attack in Lahore deterred international teams from touring the country.
Despite this long gap in Test tours, the two-time ODI World Cup champions have visited Pakistan three times since 2018. These included a bilateral T20I series in April 2018 and December 2021, as well as an ODI series in June 2022.
This upcoming series is part of the ongoing ICC World Test Championship, though neither Pakistan nor the West Indies remain in contention for the final.
Moreover, this tour will mark a significant milestone for Pakistan, as it will be the first time the country has hosted an ICC tournament on its home soil since co-hosting the ICC ODI World Cup in 1996, which was won by Sri Lanka.
