KARACHI: A police team including a female Station House Officer (SHO) were injured by a mob reportedly for being stopped to offer Friday’s congregational prayers at a mosque in Karachi’s Orangi town area.
According to sources, Pirabad police station SHO, Sharafat Khan along with a police team reached at the area after receiving information for the violation of a complete lockdown imposed by the provincial government from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm in order to limit the spread of COVID-19.
The police team reached the spot but faced a hostile situation when the mob started hurling stones on the police team. As result, SHO Sharafat Khan and three police officers sustained injuries. The situation was brought into control by Rangers officials who immediately arrived at the site of the incident.
The footage of the incident on social media and TV channels clearly shows people rushing out of the mosque as the police officer deals with the situation.
Meanwhile, the judicial magistrate has taken notice of the incident and ordered Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) and Deputy Inspector General (DIG) West to submit a detailed report into the regard.
Chairman Senate’s Standing Committee on Interior Affairs Rehman Malik has also taken notice over the incident and ordered strict action against the attackers.
