Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) leader Talha Mehmood on Tuesday announced his decision to quit the party and join the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP).
Addressing a press conference in Islamabad, he said that now he would be the PPP’s candidate in the Senate elections.
He said he had received a message from PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari in which he had invited him to join the party. “Later President Asif Ali Zardari had a detailed meeting with me in which he gave me an invitation to join the party,” he informed.
Talha, however, said there was no bad blood between him and JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman.
He was of the view that everybody would have to play his or her role in pulling the country out of crisis.
In a question, he said that he wants to play his role in the country’s politics on the national level and the PPP is the best platform for this purpose.
It should be noted that Talha Mehmood is one of the wealthiest Pakistanis.
