KARACHI: Syngenta Pakistan Limited has successfully launched a crop insurance program based on climate and parametric index in collaboration with Salam Takaful Limited.

As part of this programme, payment checks of Rs 8,500 per farmer were distributed to autumn crop farmers in the Arifwala and Wahari areas of Punjab.

Local farmers appreciated this program and said that this program will change the standard of living of the farming community and will prove effective in making Pakistan’s agriculture sector stronger and more resilient.

This crop insurance program aims to protect farmers from the effects of climate change using digital technology. In addition, by creating a system for farmers, which offers solutions to all the painful and critical issues, and empowers them, Syngenta Pakistan’s farmer-centric vision is “One Team, One Dream, Future of Farmers”.

Speaking at the check distribution ceremony, Zeeshan Haseeb Baig, General Manager, Syngenta Pakistan, said that agriculture is the most affected sector due to climate change. This year, due to unusual heat and rains, the production of wheat, maize, and mango also decreased.

To meet this challenge faced by the farmers, Syngenta Pakistan stands alongside its farmers by providing crop insurance based on climatic indicators and parametric.

He further said that while on one hand, Syngenta is providing quality crop protection products to the farmers, on the other hand, it is also providing protection to their crops in the form of crop insurance and with the help of its partners.

This year, 50 percent of farmers have been paid out through a pilot maize crop insurance project due to abnormal rains caused by climate change. This initiative is part of Syngenta’s farmer welfare vision through which efforts are being made to fulfill the needs of the farmers and solve the problems faced by them.

Syngenta is a leading agricultural innovation and technology company providing digital services including seeds, crop enhancement, and protection drugs and bio-based ingredients to millions of Pakistani farmers.
