Suzuki is preparing to reduce the weight of its popular hatchback, the Alto, by up to 15 percent. This reduction will lower both the production cost and the price of the vehicle.
Reports indicate that Suzuki aims to achieve this weight reduction in the coming years, with a special focus on improving the vehicle’s energy efficiency. Currently, the 660 model weighs around 680 kilograms, but the company plans to cut this by 100 kilograms. This weight reduction is expected to enhance fuel efficiency and decrease the vehicle’s overall cost.
Suzuki’s automotive technology division explained that heavier vehicles require larger batteries and motors to achieve extended range and improved performance. By using smaller batteries and motors, Suzuki anticipates reducing the cost of its vehicles.
Reducing the vehicle’s weight by 100 kilograms is expected to lower energy consumption and improve efficiency by approximately 6 percent. Additionally, Suzuki is developing new software and advanced driver assistance technologies to help alleviate traffic congestion.
