KARACHI: The recent devastating floods in Pakistan have claimed over 1500 lives and left millions homeless. Sufi Singer Soonh Leghari is also one of them who lost her home in the devastating floods and was compelled to take shelter in the tent city, established by Sindh government in Malir.
Leghari has sung songs in different languages including Sindhi, Punjabi, Marwari and others and also acted in a comedy-drama, but once a celebrity is now giving picture of a helpless human being.
Talking to MM Digital, Soonh Leghari said the heavy downpour damaged her home and her husband helped her to leave the flood-hit area to the relief camp. She complained that the loud claims of Sindh government remained only claims and they are given tents here only but there are no other basic facilities for the flood victims.
Soon Leghari said the Sindh government did not even provide them the stuff to cover the heated floor and they have to face the dust storm and heat every passing day as they don’t have any other choice.
She said snakes and scorpions are also problems for the flood victims in the tent city. The folk singer broke into tears while narrating that her son keeps on asking: “Mother when will we be going to our home.”, This is not life, it would have been better if we died, she said.
Really, it is not easy to leave your home and live like gypsies in the camps, but Sindh government should focus on flood victims and ensure the provision of basic facilities to them at least in the camps rather than making tall claims only.
