LAHORE: Renowned social activist and psychologist Dr. Nabiha Ali Khan (also known as Kanwal Ali Khan) has approached the Family Court in Lahore seeking dissolution of marriage (Khulla) from her husband, Haris Hamid Khokhar.
The lawsuit for dissolution of marriage was submitted on July 20, 2026, before the Court of Senior Civil Judge (Family Court Powers) in Lahore through her legal counsel, Muhammad Mudassar Ch. Advocate High Court and Ali Usman Diyal Advocate.
According to the legal documents submitted to the court, Dr. Nabiha Ali Khan, daughter of Muhammad Aslam Khan and resident of Park View City, Lahore, tied the knot with Haris Hamid Khokhar, son of Hamid Nawaz Khokhar and resident of Johar Town, Lahore, on November 7, 2025 The Nikkah was duly registered with the concerned Union Council.
In her petition, Dr. Nabiha stated that while her husband’s behavior was cordial during the initial few days of marriage, his attitude drastically changed shortly after. The petition highlights serious allegations regarding her husband’s conduct and demeanor, stating:
– Allegations of Domestic Abuse & Misbehavior: The petitioner stated that her husband became increasingly abusive and violent, engaging in frequent quarrels over petty household matters.
– Inhuman Treatment: She stated in her petition that her husband mistreated her severely and treated her “like animals,” rendering it impossible for her to continue living with him as a wife.
– Irreconcilable Differences: Expressing that she can no longer maintain a wifely relationship with her husband within the limits prescribed by Islamic law, she formally requested the court for a decree of dissolution of marriage on the grounds of Khulla.
Legal Prayer
Through her counsel, Advocate Muhammad Mudassar, Dr. Nabiha has requested the court to:
1. Issue a formal decree for the dissolution of marriage on the basis of Khulla against the defendant.
2. Award costs of the suit.
3. Grant any other legal relief deemed appropriate by the honorable court.
