KARACHI: At least six people, including two women, were killed and more than 90 others were hospitalised when poisonous gas spread in Keamari area of the metropolis.
Authorities suspected that the leakage— as gas— occurred during offloading chemicals from a cargo ship anchored at Keamari Jetty.
Kemari’s vice chairman Asif Khan said six people, including two women dead, while, the affected people have been shifted to Ziauddin Hospital and Civil Hospital Karachi as they are facing problems while breathing due to the poisonous gas, Asif added.
The chief operating officer Dr Faheem while talking to media said that four persons have died till 9:00 pm, adding that 70 patients with breathing problems were brought to the hospital.
The doctor said that patients have revealed that they got affected by poisonous gas, adding that which gas caused the health issue was yet to be known.
Faheem said that thirty patients have been discharged after the first medical aid, adding that rests of all were out of danger.
Meanwhile, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah and Inspector General of Police Sindh Dr Kaleem Imam have taken notice of the toxic gas incident. They expressed grief over the demise of six persons. They also sought detailed inquiry reports from the concerned authorities.
