KARACHI: The Special Investigation Unit (SIU) of Sindh Police on Friday claimed to have apprehended a gang of robbers and recovered weapons and valuables from their possession.
According to police sources, SSP Malir had directed action against armed motorcyclists involved in mugging incidents in the area after their footage want viral on social media.
A specially-constituted police team subsequently nabbed three members of the gang identified as Zubair Khan alias Wazani, son of Musharraf Khan, Muhammad Ibrar son of Abdul Gagfar and Abdul Aziz son of Abdul Waheed.
The police also recovered looted cash 50,000, mobile phones and three 30-bore pistols from them. The police have registered FIRs against the suspects and started further investigation.
Separately, Special Investigation Unit police apprehended a wanted criminal during a raid near Karachi’s Noori Shah Baba Shrine.
The SIU police conducted a targeted raid near Noori Shah Baba Shrine and arrested a wanted robber, Muhammad Suleman alias Maki, son of Muhammad Youniou. The police also recovered illegal pistol, cash and other stolen items from his possession.
On May 5, Special Investigation Unit (SIU) of Sindh police had arrested a gang of five alleged robbers and recovered three unlicensed pistols, jewellery, mobile phones, cash, and other valuables from their possession.
According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Irfan Bahadur, the dacoits’ gang was involved in over 100 cases of street crime, bank robberies and other criminal activities. He maintained that the gang usually targeted those who were withdrawing cash from ATM machines or banks.
During an initial probe, the suspects “confessed” to committing house robberies in North Karachi, Ferozabad, Bahadurabad, Aziz Bhatti and Nazimabad areas of the city.
