Sirens is a new dark comedy mini-series on Netflix, following the strange and wealthy life of Michaela, played by Julianne Moore, who lives on a private island with her assistant, Simone (Milly Alcock).
Simone has left her old life behind, but when her sister Devon (Meghann Fahy) arrives with news that their father — who has dementia — needs help, things get tense. Devon had been handling everything on her own while Simone lived in luxury. But when Devon visits the island, she finds that Simone may have joined a strange cult led by Michaela.

Michaela keeps her staff under tight control, even making them sign secret agreements. She’s busy planning a fundraiser for birds and barely notices the chaos around her. The island is run by a high-tech assistant named Zeus, and Michaela’s husband Pete (Kevin Bacon) quietly stays in the background.

As the story unfolds, we learn about Simone and Devon’s painful childhood. Simone, once a working-class girl, escaped and reinvented herself. Devon, left behind, struggled and ended up in jail. Now, she wants her sister back.
Though the show starts off funny and bizarre, it becomes much deeper. It explores serious themes like family, trauma, and the gap between rich and poor. In one powerful moment, Pete and the sisters’ father talk about money, mistakes, and how it can’t fix broken relationships.
Created by Molly Smith Metzler, Sirens may look like a story about wealth and scandal — with cults, secrets, and luxury — but underneath, it’s really about people just trying to survive.
