KARACHI: Ministers of Sindh government were at loggerheads over the monopoly of Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) and arbitrary supply of water in their respected areas.
According to details, Minister of Local Government Nasir Hussain Shah and Education Minister Saeed Ghani had a heated exchange over the issue of arbitrary water supply.
Saeed Ghani’s brother Farhan Ghani has issued a message, which was also received to M.M News, in his respected area that a protest would be staged outside Karsaz Ninth Mile Water Board MD’s office on Monday for which preparations should be made.
Later, a protest was staged outside the MD Water Board office on the pretext of water shortage in Manzoor Colony and Mahmoodabad. Protesters, who were also carrying placards, chanted slogans against Nasir Hussain Shah and in favour of Saeed Ghani.
The protestors also urged Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto to appoint Saeed Ghani as Local Government Minister by replacing Nasir Hussain. According to the placard, the protest was staged by PS104 workers. However, Farhan Ghani’s close associate and PPP worker later announced to call off protests as the matter has been settled.
On the other hand, Waqar Mehdi, Special Assistant to Chief Minister Sindh for Inspection and Inquiries, paid a surprise visit to the KWSB office on Monday as per plan and scolded the late-coming officers. Waqar Mehdi expressed anger over the absence of a large number of officers and staff.
“The Department of Inspection and Inquiries will write to the proposed authority to take action against the late-coming officers. The officials come to office on time and solve people’s problems,” he said on the surprise visit.
Instructing the MD Water Board, the Special Assistant to the Chief Minister Sindh said that he should visit the offices every week to check the attendance of the employees and inquire into the issues of nepotism and injustice in the KWSB’s medical department.
Meanwhile, Agha Rafiullah, PPP leader and member National Assembly, called on MD KWSB Engineer Asadullah Khan at his office and discussed in detail various issues related to water supply and drainage in Landhi Korangi district.
