ISLAMABAD: Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Maritime Affairs Mr Mahmood Maulvi has blamed the Sindh Government for the hike in wheat prices.
In a recent video statement, Mr Mahmood Maulvi said Sindh Government has not released wheat to flour mills resulting in a constant rise in price across the province.
He warned Sindh government to not exploit the people of Karachi. He added that Sindh Government had 1.2 million tons of wheat stock but is not releasing it. He further added that flour was being sold at Rs70 to 75 per kg in Karachi, while the price of flour in Punjab was Rs57 to 58 per kg.
He added that if the provincial government releases its wheat stock, the price of flour will eventually come down. He said the new crop would be ready by March, and that the federal government was also importing wheat to cater to the growing needs.
Meanwhile, the provincial cabinet has decided to release wheat at the rate of Rs.1,950 per quintal from October 15 to control the increase in wheat prices.
