SIALKOT: A Sri Lankan citizen Priyantha Kumara, who was burnt to death over revenge has turned out to be a Christian.
It was earlier speculated that Priyantha Kumara was Hindu by religion, however, it has been declared that he is Christian. He was a manager in Sialkot’s Rajco factory and was beaten to death by fellow workers on baseless allegations of blasphemy.
According to religious groups in Sialkot, Priyantha Kumara had long since converted to Christianity. Sources said that the victim was also trying to provide employment to the Christians of Punjab city and in this regard also many people were outraged over his initiative.
It may be recalled that Sri Lankan production manager Priyantha Kumara was assassinated on 3rd December at the Rajco factory in Sialkot after being brutally tortured on false charges of blasphemy.
Earlier, there were reports that the victim was a Hindu or a Buddhist, but religious leaders in Sialkot and sources close to the victim claimed that Priyantha was a Christian and was working to provide employment to Christians in Sialkot. Yesterday, the body of the deceased was sent to his native Sri Lanka after postmortem, where his last rites will be performed.
