RAWALPINDI: Police on Tuesday arrested former interior minister and Awami Muslim League chief Sheikh Rasheed following the cancellation of bail in May 9 riots case.
A case was registered against Rashid for vandalism at the Metro bus station situated at Sixth Road in Rawalpindi.
The former interior minister is being shifted to New Town Police Station.
Sheikh Rasheed appeared before ATC for confirmation of bail in 14 cases registered against him in May 9 riots cases. He was granted bail in thirteen cases, however, his bail was rejected in the New Town police station case.
He was brought into jail by the police from the court after the bail was revoked.
After the former prime minister’s detention on May 9, Rasheed is alleged to have planned an attack and vandalism against a sensitive installation.
The former minister promised to run for office from jail on Monday out of fear of being arrested.
It’s important to note that Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed, the leader of the Awami Muslim League (AML), termed the leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) a “stubborn” and denounced the May 9 riots last year.
