LAHORE: Opposition Leader in National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday asserted that the government failed to prove corruption of even a single penny against him and former prime minister and PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif in the wake of a recent UK court verdict.
Addressing a press conference in Lahore, he pointed out the recent UK court’s verdict about the unfreezing of his and his family’s bank accounts and said that after his decision the government have been burned and inflamed in the last three days “as the last spurt of the last coal in a fire in winter.”
He further said that the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) had levelled various accusations against him and his family members but could not prove any wrongdoing, adding that he was sent to jail twice during the last three years.
He said when the government failed to prove corruption against him and his children they approached the UK’s National Crime Agency (NCA).
“The NCA conducted a probe in which it examined my financial transactions over the past 20 years and found no evidence of money laundering or criminal activities against me”, he said, adding that finally the UK agency asked the court that they wanted to end investigations against him and the UK court approved the request.
“Will UK court let us go unpunished if we had committed corruption?” he asked. Shehbaz Shairf also criticized Prime Minister Imran Khan, saying that the “NAB-Niazi nexus is a fixed match and FIA is working on the government’s directions.”
He further said he lodged a defamation case against the Daily Mail and asked it provide evidence against him. “However the Daily Mail is yet to submit evidence in the case,” Shehbaz highlighted.
“Those who are pretending themselves to be sadiq and ameen spent millions of rupees to defame me,” he said, adding, “Sideling the Sharif’s family is the only agenda of the PTI-led government.” The PML-N president said that the rulers had only wasted the nation’s time.
Responding to a question, Shehbaz said the nation should pursue a defamation case against the prime minister, NAB, FIA and the ARU for sending piles that achieved nothing except wasting the nation’s time.
“If you had been focused on serving the nation then there would not have been so much inflation, education would have been common […] you only had one agenda, how to drive the Sharif family into a corner,” Shehbaz said.
