MELBOURNE: Former Australian fast bowler Shaun Tait is delighted at being appointed Pakistan’s bowling coach and said that he is excited to be associated with the Pakistani cricket team.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) appointed Shaun Tait as the fast bowling coach for one year ahead of the upcoming historic series with Australia.
“I am delighted to be joining the Pakistan cricket team as the fast bowling coach, and undoubtedly, this is a huge responsibility for me. Pakistan is a huge cricketing nation in the world that has a history of producing some great fast bowlers,” he said in a video statement.
“Shaheen Shah Afridi, Haris Rauf, Naseem Shah Hassan Ali, Muhammad Abbas are good bowlers and these are just a few names. I am very excited to work with these players. I can’t wait any longer for this opportunity.”
According to a PCB statement, Saqlain Mushtaq will continue as Pakistan’s head coach for another 12 months, while Mohammad Yousuf will be the batting coach for the Australia series, and Tait will be working as the fast bowling coach.
Shaun Tait had announced his retirement from all forms of the game in 2017 due to persistent elbow injuries. Tait had retired from first-class cricket in 2009 and one-day internationals in 2011.
Tait, who was considered as one of the quick pacers in the world, represented Australia in three tests, 35 ODIs and 21 T20s, and made his last international appearance against India in the shortest format at Sydney last year.
The former fast bowler was instrumental in Australia’s 2007 World Cup triumph in West Indies, where he was the joint-second highest wicket-taker with 23 dismissals in the tournament.
Cricket Australia had announced an 18-member test squad for the much-awaited Pakistan tour in almost 24 years, starting on March 4 in Rawalpindi.
