Shaheen Afridi, the Pakistani pace bowler, is anticipating the arrival of his first child with his wife Ansha Afridi next month.
The national team’s red-ball coach, Jason Gillispie, commented, “Shaheen may miss the Bangladesh Test matches due to childbirth. We are prepared to grant him leave if he chooses to remain with his wife during this time.”
Shaheen and Ansha had their nikah ceremony at Zakaria Mosque in Karachi in February 2023, followed by their wedding and valima celebrations later that year. The wedding ceremony took place on September 19 at a local hotel in Karachi, attended by current and former cricketers such as Babar Azam, Misbah-ul-Haq, Saeed Anwer, Sohail Khan, Tanveer Ahmed, and others. The valima was held in Islamabad on September 21.
This news of Shaheen’s potential absence from the national team coincides with Pakistan’s upcoming two-match Test series against Bangladesh in August. Recently, Shaheen has been in the spotlight due to reports of alleged misconduct with coaches and management staff.
