ISLAMABAD: Former interior minister Senator Rehman Malik has faced the ire on social media after he sought details of deceased child Iqbal Masih who was killed decades ago.
Senator Rehman Malik asked for the contact details of the deceased activist while responding to a tweet paying tribute on his death anniversary.
“Remembering Iqbal Masih, a little hero & an activist from a small town in Pakistan, who courageously fought against child labour. After escaping slavery at 10, he attended BLLF school & completed 4 yr education in 2 yrs & also saved 3000 children,” said a tweet.
Responding to this tweet, the senator sought for Iqbal Masih’s details, not knowing that he is already deceased. The message on the social media site has not been deleted as yet, implying that the senator has not realised the blunder.

Iqbal Masih was born in village Muridke near Lahore. He was forced into bonded labor at age four. After being freed at age ten, Iqbal became an activist against bonded child labor. He was assassinated on April 16. 1995 at the age of just 12.
The senator in no time started being mocked on social media for his reply.
Hi Senator, he was assassinated in 1995 by carpet mafia. But if you are asking for details about his family? In case you want to help? Or other children who are in the same situation . Then i am sure we can try to help.
