The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) police successfully thwarted a major terrorist plot by killing eight militants during joint operations with the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) across the province on Sunday.
The operations took place in Bannu, Khyber, and Zahir Garhi, suburban areas near Peshawar. Police confirmed that the terrorists, involved in multiple attacks on security forces, were neutralized, and a large arsenal of weapons and equipment was seized.
In Bannu, two militants were killed in an operation conducted by local police and CTD forces. They were identified as attackers on police posts in Sheikh Lindak and Fatah Khel, and were linked to assaults on security forces and an attack on a rescue building under construction.
In Khyber, CTD forces killed three militants near Shah Kas Bypass Road while thwarting a planned attack on police personnel. Three Kalashnikov rifles were recovered.
Another three terrorists were killed in Zahir Garhi, with weapons including Kalashnikov rifles and a pistol recovered.
KP’s Inspector General Police, Zulfiqar Hameed, commended the police and CTD for their bravery. Terrorist activity has surged in KP and Balochistan since the Taliban took control of Afghanistan in 2021.
