ISLAMABAD: The Hon’ble Chief Justice of Pakistan Mr. Justice Umar Ata Bandial has taken Suo Moto notice of the brutal killing of journalist, Mr. Arshad Sharif. A five-judges bench headed by Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial will conduct the hearing.

Local court reporter Saqib Bashir claimed that the SC was under immense pressure to take Suo Motu notice after receiving letters from numerous Pakistanis from home and abroad, seeking court’s action over the murder.

Arshad Sharif, a prominent journalist from Pakistan, was assassinated in the outskirts of Nairobi, capital of Kenya, on October 23.

In a press note issued here on Tuesday, the Supreme Court issued notices to secretaries of Interior, Foreign and Information ministries, as well as to DG IB, DG FIA and President of Pakistan Federation Union of Journalists (PFUJ).

The SC press note says the journalist community in the country and the public at large are deeply distressed and concerned about the death of the senior journalist and are seeking the court’s scrutiny of the matter.

A five-judge bench headed by Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial will conduct the hearing shortly.

Reacting on the SC decision move, senior PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry welcomed it, expressing hope that the judges would stand up for the basic human rights negating all pressures, if any.
