KARACHI: Several officers of the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) has started collecting corrupt payments from builders involved in illegal constructions ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr.
SBCA Deputy Director Shakeel Jamali, Assistant Director Sami Shaikh, and building inspector Aurangzeb have collecting underhand payments on behalf of Director-General Naseem-ul-Ghani Sahito and Director Admin Mushtaq Soomro.
These officers are collecting payment from the building mafia and those involved in illegal constructions and encroachment. The payments are termed as ‘Eidi’ while the officers also demand expensive items as gifts for their families.
These activities are being done in Liaquatabad Town and Nazimabad under the watchful eye of these officers where builders have constructed high-rise apartments in clear violation of safety rules and regulations.
Building inspectors Aurangzeb and Shakeel Jamali have allowed over a dozen illegal constructions and receive vast sums from the building mafia while the arms of the law have yet to reach them.
