A man in Saudi Arabia, identified only as Kashi, has claimed on social media that he was arrested for possession of a painkiller medicine called Tramadol during a routine police check-up. Kashi claimed he was held in jail for five days after his arrest and later released on bail.
Kashi shared details of this incident on Facebook and Instagram, where he sought help on an unofficial Facebook group called “Ask KSA (Saudi Arabia – Information, Guide, and Q/A)”. He said he received a court hearing notice from Najiz about a month after his arrest, but he failed to appear on the scheduled date. Now he wants to know what to do.
“As-salamu alaykum. I was caught with medicine, Tramadol (a pain killer), during a routine check/search in Buryddah Al Qaseem. I spent five days in jail, and then a month later, I received a message about a court hearing/session (Ijtima’a or Ijlaas) in Najiz, but I missed it. What will happen to this case now? What should I do?” the post read.

The Facebook group has been clarified as not being a government organization but an informal online community where people exchange information, advice, and questions related to Saudi Arabia. It is not affiliated with any government or governmental organization.
In Saudi Arabia, it is considered a crime to possess or use a medicine, especially certain painkillers, without a doctor’s permission or prescription. If the medication is truly medically necessary, it is essential to have proper medical documentation.
