Saad Rizvi urges supporters to vote for PTI

Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) Head, Saad Rizvi, has urged his supporters to cast their votes in favor of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and its incarcerated leader, Imran Khan.

In a widely circulated video on the social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter), the religious party leader, without explicitly mentioning Imran Khan and PTI, expressed his desire for the public to vote for truth and righteousness. He emphasized that he does not seek votes for himself or his party but encourages support for the principles he stands for, both inside and outside of jail, demonstrating a fearlessness that persists in confinement and the broader political arena.

TLP was founded by Khadim Hussain Rizvi in August 2015 after the hanging of Mumtaz Qadri, who assassinated Salman Taseer, the Governor of Punjab, for opposing blasphemy laws and subsequently rose to fame. During the assassination of the Governor, Rizvi was serving as an auqaf official in the Punjab government.

It was the fifth-largest party in Pakistan at the time of the 2018 Pakistani general election and secured over 2.2 million votes. It failed to win any seats in the National Assembly or the Punjab Assembly but won three seats in the Sindh Assembly.

Earlier, the party was allegedly a blue-eyed boy of the establishment, and other parties, especially PML-N, alleged that it was used against it during its government. TLP also staged the famous Faizabad sit-in against the PML-N government.

After the death of Khadim Rizvi, his son Saad Rizvi is leading the party; however, currently, the party does not enjoy good relations with the establishment after the crackdown against it. The party itself is contesting the election across the country, but its position is not stable. Nowadays, PTI is also not in the good books of the establishment, and in this regard, both PTI and TLP are on the same page.
