COLOMBO: Ranil Wickramasinghe has been elected as the new President of Sri Lanka.
According to the international media, the Sri Lankan Parliament has elected Wickramasinghe as the new president of the country despite the unpopularity and opposition of the people. In the voting for the election of the new President of Sri Lanka, Wickramasinghe got 134 votes while his opponent got 84 votes.
It should be noted that Ranil Wickramasinghe was made the Acting President after the escape of the former President of Sri Lanka, Gotabaya Rajapakse, who has now been elected by the Parliament as the official President.

Sri Lanka’s newly elected President Ranil Wickramasinghe is faced with the challenge of improving the poor economic and law and order situation.
Ranil Wickramasinghe said that at present the nation is in a very difficult situation and we have huge challenges ahead of us. He expressed determination to restore political stability in the country and the bailout package of IMF.
Wickramasinghe called upon the opposition parties to work unitedly for the betterment of the country.
