KARACHI: A five-member gang of dacoits has been arrested by Police and Rangers in a joint operation conducted in the metropolis on Monday.
Sources said that the gang was involved in hundreds of robberies and the arrest was made on basis of intelligence reports and footage. Moreover, other members of the gang have also been arrested on identification by the arrested suspect, he added.
The suspects were wanted by police in a number of robberies and street crimes in different areas. The accused have been arrested and jailed before, sources added.
Sources said the accused were involved in crimes despite being released on bail, including Asif, Nisar, Saeed, Roni and Michael, who had been handed over to the police for legal action.
Earlier in October, Sindh Rangers conducted a raid in Garden West and arrested four Lyari gangsters involved in a wide range of criminal activities.
The paramilitary conducted an intelligence-based operation along with Sindh Police in Tharu Lane area of Garden West and arrested the four suspects. The criminals are allegedly involved in a number of extortion cases and the illegal sale and purchase of narcotics.
The suspects collected extortion between Rs2 million to Rs2.5 million each month from Prince Avenue, Platinum Avenue, Lakhani Building and Tharu Lane along with several other areas.
